Thanks to Doug and http://www.forscotch lovers.com, we have our first sponsored event. Join us at Harbour (http://newyork.city search.com/profile/4 7279873/new_york_ny/ harbour.html or http://www.harbourny c.com/) where Compass Box brand ambassador Robin Robinson will be pouring and talking about the Compass Box range of whiskies. If you know Oak Cross, Asyla, Peat Monster, or Hedonism, you know Compass Box. And if you don't, this is your chance to come out and taste their award-winning whiskies. http://www.forscotch lovers.com social network procured the spot for us AND put up the money so that we won't go hungry while we're drinking. If you haven't already, you should pop on over to their site and register. Thanks to the site and Doug for helping us set this thing up, and thanks to Robin and Compass Box for agreeing to provide the whiskey. Your job in all this: show up and drink some whiskey. Harbour Restaurant 290 Hudson Street New York, NY 10013 Wednesday, October 14 7:30pm - 9:30 pm

Come out and celebrate the dog days of summer (and a member's birthday) by drinking some whiskey. The set-up is as always: bring a bottle, contribute it to the tasting, and enjoy. At the end of the night, you can either leave the bottle or take it with you.

This event is a snob-free whisky tasting, located at the apartment of one of our members. Each person brings a bottle of their favorite whisky (or whiskey), or one they'd like to try. At the end of the night you can take your (generally unfinished) bottle home or leave it for the meetup host. I recommend checking out Park Avenue Liquors (Madison and 41st), Astor Spirits (Lafayette and 4th), and Warehouse Wines (Broadway and Astor Place), all of which have excellent selections. Astor Spirits and Warehouse Wines have the best prices I've seen in the city. For online shopping check out http://www.forscotch lovers.com/ If you'd like to try a more high-end whisky but are worried about the cost, email the group or the organizer; it should be possible join forces with one or two other members.

Come on out to Brooklyn for a change! Whisky, whisky, and if I plan it right, some ol' fashioned Kentucky snacks. You know, besides bourbon. The system is the same as meetups at Aaron's apartment, except that you will be in Brooklyn. Bring a bottle to contribute to the line-up for the night. At the end of the evening, you are welcome to take your bottle back home with you or donate it to the collection of your hosts. This meetup will also be in conjunction with the whiskyguild.com social networking site, so come on out to the wilds of Brooklyn for a wee dram or seven.

The Astor Center has extended a special deal to members of the NYC Whisky Enthusiasts meetup group. Regular tickets for the 2009 Bacon and Bourbon Expo are $45 - if you use the code MEETUP, you get $20 off the ticket price. It should be amazing. Here's the link and the blurb: http://www.astorcent ernyc.com/class-the- 2009-bacon-and-bourb on-expo.ac Join us for this walk-around tasting of two great American pleasures! Sample premium American whiskies while tasting an array of tasty bacons, from artisanal producers including Nueske's, RUB, and other surprise VIP's from the world of smoked meats. Celebrated meat man Josh Ozersky will lead guided bacon tastings and demonstrations back in the Study (for when you need to take a break from all those delicious libations).

This one's going to have to be a mini-meetup. I'll be at DBA (41 1st Ave) at 8pm on 12/18/08. Have a glass of Laphroaig on me! We'll just be drinking from the bar, so don't bring a bottle to this one. Regular meetups will start back up in January.
